Chick-fil-A to allow some antibiotics in chicken, offering pizza at test kitchen

A nationwide change is coming to Chick-fil-A restaurants this spring.

The fast-food chain announced it will begin serving No Antibiotics Important to Human Medicine (NAIHM) chicken instead of No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) chicken.

Meanwhile, a Chick-fil-A test kitchen in Maryland is serving pizza.

Here's what you need to know:

What is NAIHM?

According to Chick-fila-A's statement, "NAIHM restricts the use of those antibiotics that are important to human medicine and commonly used to treat people, and allows use of animal antibiotics only if the animal and those around it were to become sick."

The previously used NAE chicken meant "no antibiotics of any kind were used in raising the animal."

Is Chick-fil-A adding preservatives or steroids?

No. Chick-fil-A said it's committed to quality food products, and that means offering "only real, white breast meat with no added fillers, artificial preservatives, or steroids" as well as no added hormones.

Did you say there's Chick-fil-A pizza?

A College Park, Maryland, Chick-fil-A test kitchen called Little Blue Menu is offering six pizza flavors, according to FOX 8. The flavors are:

  • Chick-fil-A Pizza Pie
  • Buff-lo-Ranch Pizza Pie
  • Cheese Pizza Pie
  • Pepperoni Pizza Pie
  • Meats-n-Veg Pizza Pie
  • Pepperoni Pizza 'Round
Chick-fil-A said in a news release there will be five new pizza pies and a Pepperoni Pizza 'Round available exclusively to customers at Little Blue Menu College Park beginning March 18.

All the pizzas are 11-inch pies except for the Pepperoni Pizza 'Round, which FOX 8 said is similar to a calzone.

They're all pretty self-explanatory, but what's the Chick-fil-A Pizza Pie?

It's everything you love about Chick-fil-A but in pizza form. The mozzarella cheese pie comes with toppings of chopped Chick-fil-A nuggets, Chick-fil-A sauce and pickles.

Will Austin ever get a taste of the pizzas?

As of right now, the pizzas are only available at Little Blue Menu in Maryland. There's no indication that other Chick-fil-A spots will eventually serve the pizza.
